Best Tool for Split Ends? Split Ender Pro 2 Review

Hair dusting is the best way to get rid of your split ends without losing your length. I cover this method in a different blog post.

But what about those with shorter hair that can’t bring their hair forward to trim themselves? In comes the Split Ender Pro 2.
It does the hair dusting for you. I gave it a test. Let’s cover what I found.

How much does it cut?

The Split Ender Pro 2 cuts ¼ of an inch FIXED.

What does it cut?

It cuts all ends that stick out once it passes through the center of the hair plate, like when you do it manually and use your index finger.

Does it work?

Yes, it was easy to use. Important: You want to press the arrow facing toward your ends depending on the side of your head you’re on . Each side will require you to press an arrow to turn it on before you clamp down the handle to have it go.

You use two inches of hair in section thickness, similar to when you part your hair to straighten it with a flat iron.

The brand recommends passing the hair section 3 times for best results. Repeating 3 or more times would mean potentially trimming some ends almost a full inch. One pass is all I would recommend.

You pass the Split Ender Pro 2 from the top down to your ends. Because your hair closest to your root is newer, I would only go a little as that’s not as worn as longer lengths that are older. Depending on your hair health, no higher than your ears.

How often should I use it?

We have, on average, 150,000 hairs on our heads of hair, and they’re all in thousands of hair lengths. Since this tool trims all hair lengths that run through, not just the damaged ones, you should do this sparingly.

Our hair grows on average ½ inch per month, so if you use this tool monthly, you are cutting most of your growth.

Try using it every 3-4 months, which would mean out of the 6 inches we get of growth per year. You’re only cutting a total of 1-inch max by using the split ender pro that cuts ¼ of an inch each time.

Pros

It’s faster than a traditional hair dusting with hair shears.
It can trim split ends for short hair that isn’t long enough to bring forward to do a self hair dusting.
It saves you money and travel time to a hair salon over time.

Cons

It cuts all ends healthy and split, so you need to use it less frequently. I do a lazy hair dusting which I cut all ends that stick out, and when I do this, I stretch out the next hair dusting. (Not a deal breaker)

You can’t get tree split ends that split higher than 1/4 of an inch.

Bottom line

The Split Ender Pro 2 is an automatic hair dusting, except it cuts all ends that stick out as it’s run through your hair versus when you do a hair dusting manually, and you can only cut the split or damaged ends.

If you’re using it sparingly, the Split Ender Pro 2 is a good option for cutting your split ends.
