Bathroom remodels are expensive. Having a baby is expensive. California is expensive. I knew we wouldn’t plan for a full bathroom remodel for another year or two. It was tempting to update at least the unframed mirror. Well that’s how I planted the idea on my husband. One thing led to another *smirk*…I ended up with a new light fixture, new mirrors, new vanity handles, new vanity paint, and molding. In retrospect my husband started my itch to fix up the bathroom by buying new faucets he found on sale.

The Before during our move in

I had purchased a table saw to complete my first solo DIY for the mud room a few weeks back. I had no clue how to cut 45 degree angles or what table saw blade was needed. I learned as I went. By this I mean I should have watched a few Youtube videos (I learned to jump start a car and sew this way)— instead I had wood flying at me because the blade didn’t have enough teeth. If you try this go with the 84 tooth table saw blade!

I saved many bathroom inspo pins for the moulding. The new vanity will wait for the remodel. I’m pretty happy with the light blue vanity paint color I went with. Although, I had a poll on my Instagram and the deep blue was favored. The round mirrors were 50% off at Hobby Lobby ($60 each). The handles are from Lowe’s (total under $35). The light fixture is also from Lowe’s ($69). The molding I went with is some type of pvc from Home Depot. I used about 9 of their 8 ft. colonial base moulding (total between $50-80). Something about bathroom humidity meant I needed this pvc kind.

The mirror update and light fixture alone gave the bathroom a fresh new look. I also framed the medicine cabinet with the same decorative moulding. I painted the vanity to fix my prior half done paint job. I originally didn’t sand the vanity and it ended up being extra work to fix. This time around I bought a power sander. I took my time and made sure I wouldn’t have paint peel again. The handles will help this as well.

Sanding

I was already deep in with all the new updates for the bathroom. I couldn’t help myself from trying to learn how to install decorative molding. It adds such a nice look of luxury. We are waiting on our order for a black two towel bar to install on the left side. Where I left a larger gap between the moulding.

Before and After

I hope you are inspired to pick up fun power tools and freshen up your space. *Fun fact* I’m 5’1 and when I learned to ride motorcycles and got my CA motorcycle license a few said, if Connie can, so can I! I sold my third motorcycle after having my daughter Hannah. If you scroll down my Instagram feed you can see what I rode. No spoilers go spam my IG! kidding… sort of. 🙂
