We decided to pay one of the La Jolla Secret Swings a visit. To get to the location without using the coordinates, we typed in the Birch Aquarium.
Once you arrive at the aquarium there are two parking locations, we turned left into the parking that drives up and around. That’s what the instruction link we found in google meant when they instruct to drive to the parking lot to the backside of the aquarium. It was somewhat confusing.
Once you drive upward after approximately 10 yards pay close attention because the trail is easy to miss. The dirt path has small planks that look like a mini bridge about 12”x12” right by the start of the path. The aquarium is closed due to COVID and right now it is easier to find the path without cars. Hint: The parking space where the path starts is curved.
The hike up the swing is a few yards, nothing hard. There is no need for special shoes, it is a simple 2-3-minute walk at the most.
Something important to know before you take a long drive to see this bridge is the swing is taken down often. The good news is it is hung back right away. The message on the swing changes as well. There’s usually a line to take pictures, in case you plan an elaborate picture plan. Have fun exploring San Diego!
