When we moved in to our house December 2019 everything was original from 1996. We’ve slowly been working on making it our home between becoming new parents and a world pandemic. I was inspired to do a bold black door from an Instagram post when searching for rugs.

I’ve been having a hard time working with grey walls for decor because the tones are too cool. Instead of silver and white accents I’ve moved toward black and browns to warm up the space. The small black adds a subtle contrast and it doesn’t look washed out like white does against that very light grey. When I came across the inspo picture I was hesitant to have such a large black piece. Most of the black I’ve added are small accents.
You don’t need much to paint your door. All you need is minor sanding if it has old paint drips, a paint brush or roller if your door is flat, and good paint.
After you’ve lightly sanded your door wipe off the residue with a wet paper towel. Then you can get to painting. Or have your husband finish your project like I do!
We needed two coats of black on our old door.
The door came out great! We’re still looking for an entry rug to complete that space.
I feel like the door adds personality to the house. It’s not a common color for indoors but I love it. Search #blackdoors on Instagram and you’ll see so many looks with it!

I think we might have to try this never thought to go with such a bold color.
